TOEFL

(Test of English as a Foreign Language)

The ELI administers the Institutional TOEFL (the paper-based version) once every semester. Students in Levels 3, 4 and 5 are eligible to take the test, but must sign up in advance to reserve a place on testing day . Sign up is approximately one month before the testing date.

The Institutional TOEFL score is accepted by USF, but is usually not accepted at other institutions. If you are applying to another university, you must check with that university’s admissions office to find out if they will accept the USF Institutional TOEFL score.

While classes at the ELI prepare students for the TOEFL, the TOEFL score is only a university entrance examination and does not guarantee academic success. Being successful at a university means knowing how to read, write, and think critically, knowing how to take accurate notes from a lecture, and being able to speak confidently to your classmates and professors. These are the skills taught at the ELI throughout the curriculum at every level.

If you are interested in taking the iBT, please visit the TOEFL web site for information and registration instructions www.ets.org.
