What is Conditional Admission?

studentsThe University of South Florida (USF) together with the English Language Institute (ELI) offers conditional admission to applicants who want to attend USF after studying at the ELI. Conditional admission is designed for international students whose first language is not English, and who need to find out if they are eligible to study at the University of South Florida.

Students who have a strong academic background, but lack TOEFL and other admission test scores, may apply for conditional admission to USF through the ELI. For this type of admission, a student studies a minimum of one semester at the ELI, and after fulfilling the requirements of the conditional admission, the student enters a University of South Florida degree program the following semester. Conditional admission is available for all undergraduate majors and many graduate majors.

Benefits of conditional admission:

  • It lets you know that you are academically qualified to study at USF
  • It gives you time to get the English language skills you need
  • It gives you time to prepare for university admission tests such as the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, or GMAT
  • It makes it easier for you to obtain a student visa
